A standard height for a Buddhist statue. A variation of the *jouroku 丈六. Abbreviation of one jou 丈 and eight shaku 尺 (approximately 540 cm or 18 feet). 1 jou= 10 shaku: 1 shaku = 30 cm or 1 foot. Jouhachi images are seldom found in Japan, but the standing *Senju Kannon 千手観音 in Toushoudaiji 唐招提寺 (late 8c-early 9c) is 538 cm tall and thought to have been based on this standard.
