Lit. stone paving. The place where paving stones
are to be laid, or the stones themselves. Stones are carefully selected for their
natural shape. The size of paving stones varies from pebbles to large slabs of
stone that are sometimes shaped with hard tools. Their shape and arrangement are
unlimited and there are even examples of paving stones that are made to resemble
a checkerboard or arranged like basketweave. |
