hishigaki　菱垣

Lit. lozenge fence. A type of open fence made with bamboo or other types of wood braided into lozenge shapes. A good example is found at Ryouanji 龍安寺, Kyoto. Thus the hishigaki is often called *ryouanjigaki 龍安寺垣.
