Also written 庇柱. 1　The posts used to support the outer extension of a pent roof or the elongated eave characteristic of the flowing style *nagare-zukuri 流造 of shrine architecture. The pillars that support the roof at the bottom of the steps leading to the veranda of a simple shrine building *honden 本殿. 2　The pillars that support the roof on the outside of the aisle *hisashi 廂 that surrounds the core *moya 母屋 of a temple building.
