Also sorimashi 反増; terimashi 照増. The gradual increase in height toward the ends of rafters *taruki 垂木, coping *kasagi 笠木 on the top lintel of *torii 鳥居, or the top rail of a balustrade *kouran 高欄 etc. Viewed from the side, the upper edge of the member has a slight concave curve, with the height greater at the ends than at any other point.
