Also haigi. An archaic term for *nodaruki
野垂木 (a hidden rafter). A timber piece that stretches from the ridge of a building
to an eave end. The word appears in the WAMYOUSHOU 和名抄, completed by Jouhei
承平 (931-38) era, an important for historical source. The KENSOUKI 顕宗紀 relates
that in a song that was composed to commemorate a new room, that the haegi
or rafters held up the roof like "the heart of the head of the family that holds
up" those who are dependent on him. |
