hachiyou fukuben rengemon　八葉複弁蓮華文

A decorative stylized lotus-flower pattern *rengemon 蓮華文, found on eaves tiles of the late Nara period. It developed as a more elaborate version of *tanben rengemon 単弁蓮華文. Eight petals surround a central motif of a seed pod containing seeds. Each petal is decorated with two small leaf sprouts shiyou 子葉. The entire flower is surrounded by a circular rim decorated with a dog-tooth pattern, senkyoshimon 線鋸歯文.
