1　Muntins, diamond shaped in cross section, used in place of vertical bars in some window openings. 2　Muntins arranged in a diamond shaped pattern on a transom *ranma 欄間. Also called hishigoushi ranma 菱格子欄間. Examples may be found at Toudaiji Nigatsudou Akaiya 東大寺二月堂閼伽井屋 (Kamakura period; just below the head tie beams *kashiranuki 頭貫) in Nara, and at Ujigami Jinja Honden Naiden 宇治上神社本殿内殿 (Heian period) in Kyoto.
