hashikakushi-no-ma　階隠の間

Also hikakushi-no-ma 日隠の間, hashi-no-ma 階の間 or mihashi-no-ma 御階の間. The space between the posts at the front of the main building, shinden 寝殿 and the annex, tai-no-ya 対の屋, of shinden style buildings *shinden-zukuri 寝殿造. The term refers specifically to the space between the two posts under the canopy at the top of the steps.
