Generally, the structures       were used for religious rites related to the temple and its environs.               2 In northern Japan, rustic shelters or huts, about 1×3 bays, with       thatched roofs and plank floors, that were built at the southwest corner       of land belonging to ascetic believers. These huts had hearths, kitchen       utensils and bedding.         |
