      called gosho oni-ita 御所鬼板 or goshomune oni-ita 御所棟鬼板. Lit. 
      the ridge of an imperial palace. The main ridge *munagi 
      棟木 of the imperial palace with a tiled roof *kawarayane 瓦屋根 with a decorative type of ridge tile *onigawara 
      鬼瓦 placed at each end. Goshomune were also used on temples to which 
      members of the nobility had retired, monzeki jiin 門跡寺院, on shrines, 
      and the mansions of high-ranking warriors. Example: Jishouji 慈照寺 (popularly 
      called Ginkakuji 銀閣寺) hondou 本堂, built in 1483 by Ashikaga Yoshimasa 
      足利義政 (1436-90) as a villa.  |
