|  An *ukiyo-e       浮世絵 subject depicting ladies and noblemen in formal attire, which came into       vogue around 1880. Gosho-e are characteristically triptychs printed       with flamboyant colors influenced by western chemical pigments. In particular,       the *aka-e 赤絵 technique,       which created a scarlet color, was popular in the Meiji period. |
