Lit. rolling stones. Small round stones about 10cm in diameter used for the drainage areas around the stooping basin *tsukubai 蹲踞 and *hachimae 鉢前. Smaller than *tama-ishi 玉石, gorota-ishi may also be written 転太石. One type is ise gorota-ishi 伊勢呉呂太石 found in the Ise 伊勢 region of modern Mie preference and much favored for aggregate pavements in Kantou 関東 area gardens. |
