	  picture horse hall.  Also called emaden ŠG”n“a; emadokoro ŠG”nŠ or gakuden Šz“a (frame hall), because originally the pictures were shaped like a frame. Emadou are halls filled with *ema ŠG”n of various sizes. It is not clear when special buildings were erected for ema. Extant examples date only from the proto-modern period: Yasaka Jinja ”ªâ_ŽÐ Emaden, Kitano Tenmanguu –k–ì“V–ž‹{ Emadokoro (1608), both in Kyoto; Kotohiraguu ‹à“”ä—…‹{ Emadou (1748), in Kagawa prefecture.  |
