1　Outer citadel. Also tsukejiro 付け城, hajiro 端城, edajiro 枝城. A type of branch castle or fortress, built on the borders of a domain, or at a strategic location within a domain in order to protect the main castle *honjou 本城. Commonly found in medieval times . 2　A small castle or tower built onto and projecting from a larger castle. A projecting tower of this type is called demaru 出丸.
