doutsukinoko 胴付鋸 | ||||||
KEY WORD : architecture / tools
Lit. saw with attached spine. A tenon or back saw. A saw designed especially to cut the shoulder of a tenon. The blade is about 25cm long, 6cm high and about 2mm thick, which is exceptionally thin compared to other saws. Consequently, because the blade is sheathed with a spine of soft steel or brass, the teeth on this type of saw are extremely fine. Thus the cut is very smooth and does not need to be finished with a plane. The doutsukinoko is used work for detailed finishing jobs on various house fittings.
