Lit. pond appreciation style. A type of small garden in which the pond is viewed from a veranda or from inside a room, typically *zashiki À•~, *shoin ‘‰@, or a pavilion. Unlike the large pond stroll garden *chisen kaiyuushiki teien ’rò‰ñ—VŽ®’뉀, the 'pond appreciation garden' is planned to be seen from a single perspective. The so-called upper-lower two-step style garden * jouge nidanshiki teien ㉺“ñ’iŽ®’뉀, such as Toukouji “ŒŒõŽ›, Yamanashi prefecture, or Chishaku'in ’qω@, Kyoto, could be considered examples of chisen kanshoushiki teien. A hybrid of this garden is the type of pond garden which is made to be seen from a fixed point inside a building but also is meant to be strolled through. Sentou Gosho å“´ŒäŠ, Kyoto, provides a good example of this hybrid chisen kanshoushiki and chisen kaiyuushiki teien.
