Also termed *orihei 折塀 (folding wall). A castle wall that zig zags back and forth like a multi-paneled folding screen. This type of wall strengthens the castle's fortification by breaking up the plane of the castle wall and by giving defenders a broader field of view to mount crossfire counter-attacks from within the castle through *aiyokoya-no-sama 合横矢の狭間 (loopholes for opposing lateral arrows) in the walls. | ||||||
