Also sougyou 僧形. A statue of a figure with a round shaved head, usually representing a Buddhist priest. Most commonly the subject is the founder of a religious sect or a high priest, but there are also bikugyou figures representing *Jizou 地蔵 and Hachimanjin 八幡神 (see *sougyou hachiman 僧形八幡). | ||||||
