Lit. rough cutting. The second stage in the making of a wooden statue. The first stage is to cut a large block of timber the size of the finished statue *kidori 木取. Then in arabori, the general form of the image is shaped with an ax or round chisel. This is followed by fine cutting, known as *kozukuri 小造り, and finishing, shiage 仕上げ.
