yuiwatagashira 結綿頭

Also gyakurengashira 逆蓮頭. A type of carved decoration found on the tops of newel posts kouran oyabashira 高欄親柱 of Zen style *zenshuuyou 禅宗様 railings. Its shape resembles a silk-floss bundle tied at the centre *yuiwata 結綿, or an upside-down lotus blossom *gyakuren 逆蓮. Posts decorated in this way are known as gyakurenbashira 逆蓮柱.
