The roof above the opening is raised and the sides are fitted with downward slanting slats through which the smoke is dispersed. Sometimes it serves as ventilation. The kitchen *kuri Ι‘ at a Zen temple has the same type of smoke-escape device. For example, at Zuiganji Kuri ήΙ‘ (1609), Miyagi prefecture. |
