Shogun Ashikaga's ‘«—˜ book of tea ceremony implement arrangement, thought to have been written by Souami ‘Šˆ’–ν (1455-1525), a chamberlain who served Ashikaga Yoshimasa ‘«—˜‹` (1436-90). It is a companion book to *KUNDAIKAN SOUCHOUKI ŒN‘δŠΟΆ‰E’ ‹L and might be thought of as a manual of tea ceremony for the Shogun. In the OKAZARISHO, the various ways to display and care for tea ceremony implements as carried out at Ogawadono ¬μ“a and Higashiyamadono “ŒŽR“a are described. The materialization of this book is clear from Souami's own words and postscript, KANGAKU SHINSOU ŠΣŠx^‘Š, that he authored in 1523 which however is thought to be a fake. It is not known when this book was produced nor what the original one was like. However, it seems that ZASHIKI KAZARISHO ΐ•~ό‘ of Higashiyamadono, which could be the source of this book, was written during Tenbun “V•Ά era (1532-55), when writing tea ceremony books flourished. It was circulated as Souami's OKAZARISHO in the early Momoyama to early Edo periods between 1596 and 1644, the time when the lords' tea ceremony was popular and the *shoin ‘‰@ style tea ceremony was revived. At this time, supplementing, omitting and erroneous copying occurred. Its relation to KUNDAIKAN SOUCHOUKI during 1532-55 may have been the basis of a later book which appeared around Keichou Œc’· era (1596-1615) as a palace tea ceremony book of Higashiyamadono and was highly valued. In 1660 one of its copies was thought to have been forged. This is a one volume book consisting of 93 items. The intention to publish is added on the first page of the book. Furthermore in the same year, the GANKAMEIBUTSUKI Šί‰έ–Ό•¨‹L added some amusing anecdotes. Both the OKAZARISHO and the KUNDAIKAN SOUCHOUKI were provided as reference books for tea ceremony officials who were in charge of shoin decoration, shoinkazari ‘‰@ό‚θ. Changes were added to the instructions and various copies came into being.
