misu 御簾 | ||||||
KEY WORD : architecture / general terms
An honorific word for *sudare 簾. Bamboo blinds that are used in shrines, palaces, and aristocratic residences. The blinds are made of thinly shaved strips of bamboo laced with string and bordered with luxurious fabric such as silk twill aya 綾, or damask donsu 緞子. Misu designs are often recreated for textile designs. Two common misu patterns are flowers superimposed over a basic screen pattern and bamboo screens blowing in the wind with autumn grasses and clouds.
