mikiri hyougu 見切表具
KEY WORD : art history / paintings

A type of mounting for a hanging scroll *kakemono 掛物. In this mounting, the upper and lower fabrics *jouge 上下 surround the area of the painting, honshi 本紙 and the strips directly above and below the painting *ichimonji 一文字, in the manner of the formal, shin 真 or hyouhoe ひょうほえ mode of mounting (see *souberi 総縁), and the *chuuberi 中縁 is found only directly above and below the ichimonji, not around all four sides. When the right and left borders, heri 縁 are on the wide side, the mounting is called douhoe mikiri 幢ほえ見切 or semiformal mikiri. The minchou style of mounting *minchou shitate 明朝仕立 often uses the douhoe mikiri. When the borders are on the narrow side, the mounting is called rinhoe mikiri 輪ほえ見切 or informal mikiri. There are also cases when the mikiri mounting is called *fukurohyougu 袋表具.
