Also written 丸窓, also called yoshinomado 吉野窓. A window which is circular or a circular window with a flat bottom edge. There are many varieties of round windows. Some are cut into a wall and are finished with, lattice inserted into the wall material. Some have either sliding or hanging *shouji 障子. The sliding shouji may be single or double paneled. If the round window is over 1.5m in diameter, it is called oomarumado 大丸窓 or 大円窓. It does not have a lath backing and is used to view nature and for lighting. Marumado are found in the shoin style *shoin-zukuri 書院造 and in tea architecture. Example: Daigoji Sanbouin Shougetsutei 醍醐寺三宝院松月亭 in Kyoto. | |||||||||
