Sutra box. Although usually rectangular these come in many shapes, having a lid and sometimes a foot. Typically the material is wood, metal or lacquered wood. Heian period *makie 蒔絵 lacquered examples are particularly fine, such as the famous pieces at Enryakuji 延暦寺, the Fujita 藤田 Museum, Taimadera 当麻寺 and Kongouji 金剛寺 in Osaka . | ||||||
