keshou munagi 化粧棟木
KEY WORD : architecture / general terms

Lit. exposed ridge. While this ridge is not usually visible from inside a structure because of the installation of a ceiling, it is so named because it is the ridge placed below the hidden ridge in a hidden roof frame. The two ridges may touch or be separated. Usually the kenshou munagi is exposed in part because it extends into the barge course and the bargeboards are attached to it.
