| KEY WORD : architecture / general terms | ||||||
|  The 45
      degree pitch of the hypotenuse, the side opposite the right angle, of an
      isosceles right-angled triangle. A right angle itself is called chokkaku
      直角, or *kane-no-te 矩の手.
      In Japanese architecture, the slope of roofs vary. When viewed from the
      exterior the structural degree of pitch can be fairly well ascertained,
      on tiled roofs but heavily thatched roofs *kayabuki
      yane 茅葺屋根 or thickly shingled roofs *kokerabuki 柿葺 tend to disguise the actual structural pitch. |
