meeting place. Originally specified as a place in a shinden style mansion
*shinden-zukuri
寝殿造 from the 12c to 14c, but no particular building was constructed
for this purpose. Finally, during the late 14c to 15c, facilities especially
designated as a kaisho were built. It eventually came to have a Chinese
style decor. 2 The guest quarters in the mansions of the nobility from the late 12c to 15c. 3 A meeting place for townsmen. 4 During the Edo period, referred place for selling products, including rice, gold, and silver, for issuing and exchanging the paper money of feudal clans, and for trading local products. The offices of feudal clans as well as those of the town and village official were located near this trading place. |
