A style
of passageway or corridor on the outside of a temple, shrine, palace or
mansion. The passageway often connects two buildings and is usually roofed
with both sides open. It may be attached along the wall of a building so
that only the outer side is open. Horou may have pillars or posts on one or both sides or may have a half wall on one or both sides. The floor is usually hard packed earth *dome 土間, covered with square clay tiles *shikigawara 敷瓦 or stepping stones *tobi-ishi 飛石. |
