| geyabari 下屋梁 | ||||||

|  A beam 
	  that spans the peripheral structural zone *geya 
	  下屋, created by extending the roof down beyond the central main frame *jouya 
	  上屋, in traditional vernacular houses *minka 
	  民家, with thatched roofs. The geyabari is tenoned into the side of 
	  the *jouyabashira 
	  上屋柱, the post at the interface between jouya and geya, at 
	  one end, and either jointed to the top of the *geyabashira 
	  下屋柱, the post defining the outer edge of the geya, or lapped over 
	  the eave purlin *geyageta 
	  下屋桁, at the other. It varies in length from one bay *ken 
	  間, just under 2m, to under half a bay. Also called a *tsunagibari 
	  繋梁, particularly when its length is half a bay or less. In the vicinity 
	  of Osaka the term is also applied to the eave purlin.  |
