fukusa　袱紗

Also chabukusa 茶袱紗. A thick silk cloth used by the host at a tea ceremony to wipe tea bowls *chawan 茶碗, and tea scoops *chashaku 茶杓, or to hold the tea kettle *chanoyugama 茶湯釜. The standard size is 27cm x 28.6cm. It is folded into a triangle and tucked into the waist. It is similar to a habutae 羽二重, a type of heavy silk from China. The methods of handling and refolding during a tea ceremony vary according to the school of tea.
