Lit. pond stroll style garden. A type of pond garden in which one walks around the pond. The most common kind of large stroll style garden *daikaiyuushiki teien ‘å‰ñ—VŽ®’뉀, this type of garden includes Heian period shinden style gardens *shinden-zukuri teien Q“a‘¢’뉀, Edo period daimyou gardens *daimyou teien ‘å–¼’뉀, and many modern Japanese style gardens nihon teien “ú–{’뉀 in Japan and the West. The central focus is the pond, although in most cases artificial hills *tsukiyama ’zŽR, large hedges karikomo Š ž, expansive lawns, pavilions, and miniature landscape *shakkei ŽØŒi, are included to present a series of changing vistas. | ||||||
